We have been tearing it up.

There are a lot of courses out here.

I throw sidearm off the tee and in the fairway, backhand approach and putt. I like the candy innova discs (http://www.innovadiscs.com/index.html) and I carry a small quiver (a couple of distance drivers, a fairway driver, a sidewinder, an approach and putt) in a sling bag that I wear when I throw, it does not interfere. I really like learning how to control the flight to use to course advantage.

I hate water, have lost a couple of discs now, I'm going to get one of those cord retrievers.

It's inexpensive, fun, a great way to spend a couple of hours and is kid friendly.

I've seen some guys who were really serious and have fashioned a golf pull cart for all their stuff, dozens of discs, a seat all that.

Light and fast, just like my fishing is what I prefer.

Definitely!

I would be in the "not stoned hippie" category.

This is something I will set up at our farm one day, a few holes around the pasture. We have a couple of courses at ski areas that I can't wait to play next year, super long downhill.

We played a LOT in Oregon. Love it, although haven't played much since the move. I've a about fifteen or so discs that I carry in an old cordura messenger bag. Oddly, we have a super long course just a couple miles from the house, and Austin is full of them... We have 28 courses within 25 miles... Methinks I need to pick up my discs again...

This is the one by the house: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=541&mode=ci

There is one of my favorites, Fountain Hills. The fountain there shoots up like 300' or something like that, tallest damn fountain in the world, water cannon, like if you put your hand in it, it would shred your skin off.

I am thinking about sewing up a monk bag for my small quiver but a small messenger bag sounds better than those lunch box/bags.

Disc golf is way fun.

Anyway the course goes around the lake and is pretty cool.

Los Olivos is close to the house, haven't played yet but I hear it's fun. This will probably be my "home course" in due time.

This is one I'm looking to play, Sunrise Ski Area. You take the lift up to the course. Just on the other side of the slope is one of my favorite streams...

And the one I'm going to work up to, Arizona Snow Bowl, another ski area course.

Thanks for the link Gus.

Link? no worries, man. I like the size of the messenger. Can keep a pen or two, sunscreen and a sigg in it, too. I used to print up the course maps before we went to new ones, and keep them in the flap of the messenger bag.

Forgot to tell you - totally off topic, but over thanksgiving I started playing Pokemon (again) with my 8yr old... and my 18 year old joined in as well... LOL. I like it more than MTG, it's just as deep, and less freaky and dark... fun stuff. Games with the kids, inside and out!

I can throw the disc pretty well but haven't played a track yet. Looks like a blast and I can still be fat...

Chef, it is one of those deals for sure, I'm gettin fat too!

The discs are specialized, heavier with a flying saucer cross section. The outside edge shape is different for the flight path, how it carves, terminates, glides, some of them are specially made to roll like a plate on edge!

You could play with a regular 175g frizz but it would take you a while and you would have to chuck it pretty hard all the time. With a disc golf disc, we are talking technique. A young svelt woman can huck it just as hard as a stoned out muscle head.

There is a specialized shop in Scottsdale, "Spinners on the Green" on the SE corner of Miller and McDowell. There is a course just at the greenbelt, 100 yards away, 18 holes.

You can do it with one fairway driver but three discs are a better bet, 4 or 5 seems about right for someone getting along with a few different shots. Make sure to carry at least one extra disc in case you don't want to swim for one...

Chef, you can borrow from me or the kids to see what kind of discs you like before you buy. At fifteen a whack, it can get expensive...

Let's go.

Have you thrown at the golf/park by your brother's house?

Wow, I live in New England and had no idea disc golf was that popular anywhere! I really don't know of anyone around here that does it, not sure I've ever seen a course.

On the other hand, ultimate is immensely popular on any college campus out here, lotta people take it pretty seriously.

where is that course? there's a park just south of his house. it doesn't seem large enough or w/ enough diversity of terrain to be interesting. the golf course es just north are often excellent.

I'm not all that interested in disc golf but will give it a shot for sure. I was given those discs by a buddy who is big into it in hopes I suppose that I'd play with him. he could throw a regular frisbee like nobody's bidness, but is a marginal disc golf player (unles she's improved since the last time he stayed here for a tourney). he played at a course out on union hills, which looks like good terrain.

fountain hills and scottsdale are too far from me to go throw frisbees at targets. hitting golf balls though? another thing entirely. even so, I'll play if you wanna. we'll prolly play golf on sat at falcon about 2pm sat if yer interested. you can prolly carpool w/ ej...

I have seen people playing at campgrounds the last few years. They use the campsite posts as holes and pretty tame compared to what you guys are talking about.
