The patterns we use for flyfishing the flats always include crabs. They come in all shapes and sizes and over the years we have learned a lot about enticing different species with our offerings. Of course, just when you think you have nailed a pattern you get proofed wrong…

I am really liking your first and last ones. The shell backs on the first set are almost too pretty to fish, but not quite. ;) I have also taken a liking ot the yellow dumbbell eyes on the last set. I bet that is a great stimulator.

Thanks, and yep, the fish seem to like those “Crab Apples” too. I've never seen triggerfish more excited about any other fly than them apples.

Bertus came up with that yellow DB combo on the last plate. They just look fishy don't they... :bigthumb:

Any chance of a Step by Step or a Recipe or two??

Hope the Salt Water is being kind to you. Jax

Gerard, I am drawn to the second photo and the last one. They are great! As Jax asks - is there chance of a step by step for all these crab flies? It would be very much appreciated if you could. :P

Thanks for showing us also the fish that was caught with them.

Those are called Crab Apples and step-by-step tying instructions are available by John Morin here (http://flyfishsaltwaters.com/fly_crabapple.htm).

What a delightful Neat and tidy Crab. No wonder the fish go nuts.

I will be having a go at tying some soon. Looks very interesting. Again Thanks. Jax

Some improvements we have made on the original pattern includes the use of longer rubber legs – provides better movement, especially the round rubber ones. ;)

Thank you so much for the step by step to the crab's pattern Gerard - I was thrilled to be able to study them and try them out for myself.
