I used to carry a power bar or two... until I discovered Larabars and Clif bars... now I always have one or two of either in my sling bag... We buy both by the case at Costco so they're readily available in the house (We have four kids from 18 down to 6 in the house...)
What do you take?

Peanutbutter and jelly sandwhich, I still love a good PB&J. Sometimes its a can of soup or just some jerky. I often get so busy fishing that I forget to eat and end up wolfing it down on the way home.

Nope. We go through a gallon of milk a day, and a bag of chips lasts one lunch... :roll:

Mikeytwoshoes took the picture but I made the meal.
Onstream for shore lunch, a "gourmet salame" such as Crespone sliced with bit of swiss or bleu or any stinky cheese, a good beer or a pre-mixed tequilla margarita is what I brought last time. As I move forward and get farther back in the woods, I'll start bringing a stove for "Udon" type noodles, pre-made just brew up some water and add or even a stir fry meal will work. I don't fish as often as I like so when I'm on stream, I like to put a little thought into it.
In the future, I'll detail some of my meals.
Everclear can power my alcohol stove, I'm going to try to come up with a mixer for that stuff, I like things that serve double duty, a double entendre' onstream, yeah.

I'll tell you what, I'm enjoying them too and I agree with you. The fact he is here is a indicator that I'm doing my job.
We have been doing this for years and it's enjoyable. The below photo is from more than 10 years ago, our fish camp wine list menu...
I wouldn't say we are first class, I would simply say that we take it do a different level in the outdoors.

We stayed upriver at 9-mile bar at Lees Ferry many many times and I was constantly writing about our adventures. On this trip, I took dry ice and packed in some gourmet vanilla bean ice cream and made a pine apple upside down cake in a dutch oven, three days into our adventure. Joe had brought about two cases of wine from around the world, my favorite was a Chilean Muscat after our dinner wine. These trips were off scale with each other trying to out do each other. You could only reach this place by boat, 9 miles upriver in a 1,000' winding deep canyon. Everything you wanted to camp with had to go in the boat. Those trips pegged the fun meter.

When I go on trips it's clif bars, turkey sandwiches when back at camp and usually ramen or some canned soup. Also I usually have homemade jerky and trail mix on backpacking trips.

Sometimes a bottle of water if its more than 4 hours.
On bigger rivers we bring sausage and a grill, grill at the parking areas.

I always liked a few oatmeal cookies w/ some nuts in a ziplock, water in one bottle, and rum & coke in the other.

Since I've yet to take a long hike to fish, I have a battery operated cooler in my van with juices, water, occasionally pop, sandwiches and fruit. In my vest pocket there is normally meat, whether it is jerky or "Slim Jims" depends on if my wife is watching me make the purchase.. :twisted:

Eating is suplimentary to tea drinking. As all good anglers know the process of making and drinking of tea is an essential part of catching fish (Read: Chris Yates, "How to Fish" Eleventh Cast, The serious question of tea) Essential equipment for any outing as follows: MSR Pocket Rocket stove, Kettle, Water from the stream. Dilmah Leaf tea, Milk & Sugar to taste and a large cup or mug.
Method: Boil water in Kettle, turn off heat. add one teaspoon of tea per person to water and stand for a couple of minutes to infuse, pour into cup, add milk and a dash of sugar and savour!
Whilst doing this the only rise of the day will take place only to stop as soon as the rod is picked up. BUGGER!! Still, tea is sure to sooth the fevered brow and the day will not be wasted.
Tea good, I do tea on stream, oolong with udon noodles and sh!take (Japenese Forest Mushrooms) in there. Titanium pot, little rocket stove and a Monarch chair, check that one out...

Wine glasses ,are a maybe with me on fishing days ,tried the plastic ones with a seperate base stem and bowl and they dont last ,
the venue before last had some superb goblets in poly carbonate , I should have liberated a few before that venue closed down .
At the moment using some plastic water cooler type clear cups ,mind the red we drink varies from plonk to something else .
All to acompany bbq'd rib eyes or sirloins ,thay have been marinaded for at least 24 hours in a mix of Worcester ,grain mustard ,cracked black pepper and good olive oil , slipped into a good lump of crusty bread and eaten in the fresh air after a hard morning chasing winter grayling tis not a bad thing !
hope to do some bbq pictures this weekend .

That is one of my sirloin steaks ,marinaded with cracked black pepper ,grain mustard ,Worcester sauce and olive oil .
Placed in a chunk of bread they are one of my favorite winter eats on the stream .
Cooked and served 10 at the weekend ,this time washed down with some italian red!

I have a small cooler bag approx. 6x9 inches. A few crackers, cheese, and ham or turkey and whatever fruit we have on the counter. I use one of those gel freeze packs that they ship with medicine to keep it all cool. I try to keep things as light as possible.

Love this thread you started "Stream Eats" Any of you Ladies want to marry me? Ha-ha, I need looking-after and feeding up!
Winter: Flask of Coffee (laced with something) a pork pie and a Mars Bar, Summer: Bottle of water and some Harvest oat bars, tucked in my back pack. Travel lightweight the fishing is more important than eating when on the streams.
But I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through this thread!

Wow! You guys are eating large on the stream. Yesterday I took a roll of sweetarts that, after I ate the first one, I promptly dropped them into the river. Still ate the whole lot!

For me A piece or two of hard candy or for long range fishing a small bottle of poland springs water & a trail mix type bar.

I usually just Bear Gryls a trout right out of the stream :biggrin:. No just kidding. Water and a pb&j ,nuts and a Clif bar.
I normally don't eat much while on day trips, but when I do feel the need to bring food, it's usually a plain sandwhich - cheddar cheese with some black pepper, between wheat bread. Occasionally I'll throw some deli turkey on there. I'll pack some chips or crackers along as a side, maybe an apple or orange, or a candy bar for dessert. Usually I just take a couple liters of water with me, or in the winter when I'm burning more calories, gatorade.

Almost all my fishing these days is on the Brook trout creeks in the Great Smoky Mtns. NP and most of these are several miles from trails.In my pack I carry a folded sheet of heavy aluninum foil,a container of salt and pepper,and some olive oil,which with the addition of a small fire and a couple of Brook trout makes for a great streamside feast.This simple meal is really made special sometimes in early spring when Morels are added.
The thing I really enjoy is Earl Grey tea with dark brown sugar brewed in the old faithful US Army canteen cup(the old style with the handle that folds under and around the cup not the butterfly handles).Nothing like it to knock the chill off after wet wading on cool days.

That's a well oiled machine there...
Crespone salami, Maytag blue cheese, garlic bauggette with spirits...
But pb&j will do it.
When I am fishing tenkara, I take a propane stove and ramen it. I carry a small chair (Monarch) to get myself off of the ground. I must admit, I'm a bit of a gear head prepared for comfort. I've roughed it too many days and prefer a few civilized things...

Petite backpack with a few items makes a couple of mile jaunt into the wild, a little less so.

Good Cheese, Beefstick.Sausage, Good Wine in a Wine Skin.................. When I go Fly Fishing and Camping I eat good, and drink good !!!!!!!!!!!! Life is good out on the stream and up in the Mountain Wilderness !!!! Then...there is always the liquid Breakfast....(Hey....It's Barley......Barley is Cereal).............LMAO

I like strawberry twizzlers now but have carried a pb snad a lot, too. You can double the twizzlers and stick them in those little half pockets on most fly fishing shirts with the ends sticking up on both sides of the button. Just pull some and break it off. Plus those twizzlers can take a punch. I found some in my waders six months later and they are tasty. I always take my water and a can of beer or substitute for another water. I’ve gone through a lot of different streamside eats over the years and I guess it just gets more simplified as time goes on.
There are big changes coming up with my camp, cooking, and my way of fishing. I have to simplify those tasks if I want to keep doing them. http://users.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif
